gbls is the group for bioethics in life sciences at the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University (UJ).
The group deals with ethical aspects and concrete moral problems of Bio-Sciences & Medicine in education, research and consulting. These problems originate and take place in Bio-Sciences and Medicine - and for providing solutions it is important for us to be there - where the problems are:
gbls is located at a UJ-Faculty of Life Sciences.
Decisions and solutions in bioethics are only possible when Bio-Scientists and medics are responsibly involved in the process. Therefore, transfer of knowledge in bioethics to all professional groups in Bio-Sciences & Medicine is essential.
This is why we have developed the model of integrated BIO-ETHICS.
You find a brief description of our model on the following pages and in our

  1. Bio-Ethics is a regular discipline in Bio-Sciences
  2. Bio-Ethics is therefore located in Bio-Sciences
  3. Bio-Ethics is due to different levels of interest also located in other (academic) frames
  4. Bio-Ethics is transfer of competences
  5. Bio-Ethics means comprehension, analysis and solution of moral problems originating and taking place in Bio-Sciences & Medicine
  6. Bio-Ethics means developing conclusions
  7. Bio-Ethics means transferring the conclusion to rules, regulations, protocols etc.
  8. Bio-Ethics means supporting the transfer of these rules into action
  9. Bio-Ethics is the unification of Theory and Practice
  10. Bio-Scientists & Medics must be also Bio-Ethicists
